Let the good times roll

CDO Airport

CDO Airport

The moment we’ve all been waiting for…

My high school friends and I rarely see each other because of their busy schedules and some old alibis. (not to mention all of them are RN and I’m the only IT professional)

During Gabby’s birthday, the group decided to go somewhere out of town. Moalboal, Bantayan Island, Davao, Boracay and all other places were mentioned. It was more likely an impromptu decision with so many concerns behind. Later that night the group decided to go for an adventure and experience the White Water Rafting in Cagayan de Oro City.

The day after, I bought the tickets and started inquiring on accommodations and the rafting fee. I myself was excited. It’s my first time to try the water rafting adventure and I will be spending time with my girl friends in an out-of-Cebu trip.

The day has arrived and the weather is not fine. Cebu was raining cats and dogs with news that a typhoon is coming. We were quite hesitant to go and our moms are worried. But still we went to the airport, boarded the plane and CDO here we come!

Hello CDO! We arrived at around 6:30am and CDO’s weather is fine and no signs of typhoon. Their airport is quite far from the city. You can ride a taxi or rent a vehicle to bring you to your accommodation. We were offered a 300Php van rate to bring us to our destination, but do mind that this rate is a bit expensive. So my friends and I went out and rode a jeepney going to the city proper. We were dropped off Carmen and rode another jeepney to DV Soria. From DV Soria, we rode a motorela (tricycle like) going to our pension house. We left our things, do our personal stuff and we started roaming around the place.

Vines Pension House

Vines Pension House

Accommodation: Vines Pension House

Address: Fem’s Vines Bldg. Cor. Yacapin Aguinaldo St. Cagayan de Oro City

Contact Nos.: (8822)724582 or (88)8572158

Rate: 1000, 150 for an extra bed

Vine’s pension house is located in the city and is accessible to fast food chains and convenient store. We got the Suite room and it accommodated the 6 of us. It has 1 queen size bed, 1 single bed and we requested for 2 extra beds. What made is a suite room is the 42- inch flat screen LCD TV attached on the wall. Clean and the staffs are friendly.

Malasag Eco-tourism Park

Malasag Eco-tourism Park

Our first stop is Malasag Eco-Tourism Park. It is situated in Sito Malasag, Cugman. We hired a taxi going there with a 350Php rate (this is not an ok rate by the way). Malasag Eco Tourism Park is a cultural village in a botanical setting. It has tribal houses and cozy guests house cottages. They also have a camp ground, swimming pool, picnic area, multi-purpose hall and orchidarium. For a cultural side trip, visit this place and enjoy the beauty of nature as well.

The most awaited part of the trip has come…off we go to our rafting adventure. We were picked up by Kagay rafting team at 12:30 noon from the pension house. Going to the rafting area was an hour so ride. We got the advance course, has 24 Class II-IV rapids and 4hrs hours actual river run duration. It was a blast! We all had fun and enjoyed the rapids, swimming in the river and stories our guide shared (some were facts other were not). Thank you to our friendly guides and patient photographer (it was not easy to be with demanding ladies *wink).

Mapawa Nature Park

Mapawa Nature Park

Last stop, is Mapawa Nature Park. The place is just few kilometers ahead Malasag Eco Tourism Park. There are several activities you can do there. One of which is the horseback riding in which you can choose to take the 15minute, 30minute or 1hour trail ride. You can also go swimming and camping. They also offer group activities like River Trekking with guides as you go through a lot of challenges. And the reason why we went to the place is to try their zip line. It is suspended over the forest with a 6stage course. We rode a taxi going to the park given the rate of 700Php (back and forth). Thanks to Mr. Iggy Pelaez for being so accommodating to the group.
